from India spice your life up with Tantra    Posted: March 29, 2005 Reply with quote

There are wide variety of Tantric traditions and practices. Tantra is a spiritual practice whose goal is the "weaving" - the meaning of Tantra-
together of the various bodies in our person{ physical. mental, emotional/desire and the spiritual or bliss body} into an integrated whole
from it's seemingly disparate parts.

The purpose of this weaving is to create an inner/outer state of balance and harmony in our being. This balanced state is the prerequisite for the natural opening up and rising of the Kundalini energy which effects the trans formation of earthly into divine IN THE BODY.

The fantastic sexual feats of Tantrikas which have brought recognition of Tantra in the west are merely the by product and beginning of Tantric practice. Great sex is not the goal of Tantra, Tantric Sex is the STARTING POINT and means to the greater end of enlightenment/ Self and God Realization. As such Tantric practice has incredible potential to totally transform and free us while we increase our mind/body capacity to "hold" increasingly refined and intense levels of energy through PRESENCE in sex.
The fantastic sexual feats of Tantrikas are facilitated by developing the ability to "ride sexual energy- stay in the curl" without either" losing it "or retreating into fantasy as a means of reducing the intensity of the ride:
BEING PRESENT in the experience of ecstasy { the" mind blowing" of consciousness expansion} and to be able to hold this expanded awareness and deep relaxation while conscious and fully IN THE BODY: being in BLISS or Samahdi. Pleassure is the gate way and the first step in the pleasure, ecstasy , bliss continuum of Tantric experience and practice.

The potent nature of the energies unlocked through Tantric practice can be disruptive as the increased energy reveals blockages and resistances to it's flow. Often tantric practice can get rough as these blockages and resistances are brought to the surface for release. "New wine must be put into new wine skins". The energies released in Tantric practice are capable of carrying us straight to GOD. We are the determiners of how smooth or rough the journey will be.

Beautifully put, Russ. BluRazz

....And for anyone who does come across 'rough' patches, Practice Lesson 17 gives practical ways to transform them into smooth sacred sex surfing.

Tantra: come to God just as you are with your body.    Posted: May 7, 2005 Reply with quote

Tantra is an amoral{ meaning neither moral nor immoral but rather morality does not matter*} spiritual practice. Tantra places absolutely no special value on anything or anyone { this is expressed as "God is no respecter of persons" in the Christian Bible}. You do not have to change your diet, language, morals, dress or anything at all. All one needs to do is surrender to the practice and allow the energies introduced into your body /mind to do their work. Whatever ,if anything ,needs to change will be revealed through the practice.
Tantra is defined as "technique/weaving" techniques to weave the various bodies of our being into a balanced unity {w]holiness in order to go beyond Consiousness to Formless Being also known as the state of No-Thingness: being without any particular form capable of assuming any form: No-Thingness/ The All/ Tao/the One.
Tantra is neither a relgion, nor a philosophy so neither religion or lack of religion matter nor does any intellectual or mind process or lack there of matter. Belief is not necessary because Tantra is not a belief system. What does matter is a child like attention and openness to EXPERIENCE . Tantra is a practice of surrender to the practice, and the practice works for everyone and is appropriate every time, thus it is scientific and exact.
Tantra says you want to know your self, God, Reality? COME ABOARD JUST AS YOU ARE and PRACTICE/PLAY with the various techniques offered: explore them, play with them and when you find the one which works for you then focus absolutely on it dig in go deep be carried high by the enrgy realized. Believe nothing. Put the practice to the test and observe your experience . If you get nothing which resonates for you , move on. Just because it works for everyone means nothing if it doesn't work for you !
Tantra demands self acceptance not self denial. You start where you are not where you or anyone else says you should be but where you actually are. Tantra requires our acceptance of who we are NOW. You cannot go beyond until you admit where you are. You must admit you are lost before you can be found yes! Our admission of who we are NOW is the beginning of no longer being that way if we choose not be that way. Until WE admit who and where we are nothing can change no matter how many people say we should.
Tantra affirms our physical, mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual components and says: this is good, it is ALL GOOD there is nothing to deny or overcome it is all good and to be used as needed. We have a body for a reason and the reason is not to deny it but to affirm it and use it fully. Tantra says "You can find God IN AND THROUGH your body , Come and see."

* See "The Book of Secrets" by Osho a.k.a Bagwan Sri Rajneesh for a thorough explication of the 112 techniques of Tantra . Osho is very close to my heart in his uncompromising unwillingness to pander to egos large or small and to call it bullcrap when it smells like bullcrap. He is a true iconoclast and disrupter of our need for certainty in a universe which has no certainty other than Being and Awareness: LOVE absolue fully present vulnerability/surrender.

Again well said, Russ. And everything about Tantra goes ditto for sacred sex in general.

russ said:

I'd suggest that even that's not necessary. Just DO the practice, and the real & scientific effects of it convince you of its validity, leading to natural committment (or surrender, if you prefer that word).

I have a feeling that's what you meant anyway, Russ. das funny!

russ said:

Just to clarify here, because the term consciousness can have different meanings, I think Russ is referring to going beyond ordinary waking consciousness. The state of Formless Being is also consciousness, but in its pure or unmanifest state. This is your Inner Self, that you realize in enlightenment. Of course, the many enlightened souls over the ages have described this Inner Reality differently, some choosing to describe it as even beyond consciousness; i.e beyond everything we conceive of -- as Russ says, 'No-thingness'. These however are simply different descriptions of the same state; don't let them confuse you. For clarification when reading other Forums on this website, the SSS uses the description of Inner Self as Pure Consciousness.

Yellow

I also highly recommend the Book of Secrets by Osho. As with so many other enlightened revolutionaries, Osho is greatly misunderstood & non-understood. To me, his greatest achievement is establishing Tantra as a way to and state of enlightenment, and not any particular technique to get there. Instead, as Russ says, he expounds on all 112 methods given in this ancient Tantric text, traditionally called Vigyan Bhairav Tantra. The techniques there are suited to the 112 basic personality types of human beings -- i.e. there is a method in there for everyone. Only a handful of these relate to sex - one directly to the teachings on this website - so, Tantra is far more than about sex; it is a way of of integrating all aspects of our being into a wholeness that includes not only this world of form, but also the formless consciousness at its basis. This is enlightenment, as it's been taught in so many traditions around the world.

Kriya Yoga : Shiva to Shakti/Tantra    Posted: May 7, 2005 Reply with quote

Kriya Yoga is "The Science of Breath" Breath is the Creator: "Life is in the Breath" Kriya Yoga is the practice of "The Siddahs" of Southern India. It too is scientific and will work for everyone without regard for your religion , morals , philosophy. beliefs or lack there of. Kriya Yoga too says come as you are even be skeptical, take nothing on faith put the practice to the test . Knowing, not belief ,is the goal and knowing comes by doing. The Foremost proponent of Kriya Yoga Is Babaji "The yogi of yogi's, The Immortal Mortal." Kriya Yoga and Babaji were first introduced to the West by Paramahansa Yogananda in the early 1920's . Yogananda formed "The Self Realization Fellowship" and initiated many into Kriya Yoga .
The essence of the Kriya Yoga Practice is The Cobra Breath. All of the various breaths of Kriya Yoga such as the Transmutation breath, the Hong Sua breath et al are precursors to The Cobra Breath which is an orally transmitted teaching . not written down any where { where ever it is written down it is absolutely without transformative potency and as such it is a waste of time to practice because it will not yield positive results as it is not true to the transmission of it's originator} .
The Cobra Breath is the essential and only Teaching of Babaji. There is no wriitten Teaching because there is nothing to say THERE IS ONLY EXPERIENCE facilitated by BREATH which is THE TEACHER as Breath is the creative principal of THE FATHER who breathes into the void of THE MOTHER and TOGETHER they BRING FORTH LIFE: Absolute Potency is received by Infinite Possibility The No-Thing /The All/ Tau/ The One
creates EVERYTHING . We are one with the NO-THINGNESS. We are THE NO-THING and THE ALL.
"God is The Macro-Cosm , man and woman are the Micro-Cosm: As above So below" The Father Intiates/ The Mother Realizes: Oneness is being beyond consciousness upon which consciousnes has it's expression.

This is so very true . Tantra is a whole system and just as sex is not all of life neither is it all of Tantra . To focus on the sex as goal is to miss the point it is not sex as goal but sex as means to higher consciousnes and ultimately beyond to Tao. This does not deny the wonderful sex play involved rather it puts in a context . One may certainly focus on the sex of Tantra if one chooses but the sex is the starting point not the end of the journey . All of the techniques are starting points and if the sexual ones do not rersonate for you perhaps others will. None of the techniques are ends in themselves rather they are gateways, points of entry to the macrocosm if you would and the physical world is a part of the whole not seperated from it and not all of it.
When I speak of surrender to the practice I mean doing it with your whole focus not just going through the motions with your body while your mind is running in over drive or your emotions and feelings are blowing up thunderstortms of confusion. Surrendering to the practice is to be fully present in the moment, moment by moment. Not attached to the past , future or an expectation of anything but simply being present: What is called "Being here now" by Ram Das{ Richard Alpert a pioneer with Timothy Leary of LSD discoveries who entered the Gateway of spirituality which was true for him} and called "The Practice of the Presence of God" by Brother Lawrence in his remarkable little book of the same name. Thomas Merton is a major western proponent of mindfulness and being present as well coming from a life of silence and solitude which was the outer practice of the monastic order of which he was a member . Many Orthodox Christian monks particularly of the Dark Ages @ 450-the mid 1400's A.D have written of their experience of Ilumination as well as the German mystic poet Meister Eckart and the Sufi poet Rumi.
The profoundly intimate experience of mystical union is often expressed in sexual/love language because it IS a love /sex connection so vivid as to be physically experienced and God is experienced as Lover of the beloved Soul . "As the hart pants for the water so does my Soul pant for Thee Oh Lord " is how The Psalmist sings His Song of Love.

Tantra experience is universal    Posted: May 10, 2005 Reply with quote

Yes, it just shows that EXPERIENCE of Truth is universal, despite many different ways to get there. This applies to Tantra, Sacred Sex, and all the other spiritual paths.

Re: Tantra experience is universal    Posted: May 10, 2005 Reply with quote

I wanted to show that this mystical experience is not exclusive to The East. Christianity tends to get a very bad rap in spiritual circles because Western Christianity is so devoid of APPARENT mystical roots. This is not so in Eastern {Orthodox} Christian tradtions and of Coptic { Ethiopian } Christian traditions. The mystical experiences of both Eastern and Western Christianity's monastics are a rich source of inspiration and illumination . It is in the West but not as well recognised by Spiritualists and New Agers as the Eastern expressions and practices .

Sacred sex east & west    Posted: May 10, 2005 Reply with quote

Beautiful, that's the whole point of the Sacred Sex Tradition Forum -- to show that these teachings & experiences are universal across many traditions.

I invite you & others who have knowledge to share about western sacred sex traditions to post them under the Sex in the West Topic.

I give an overview there, but it's not a specialty area of mine. You have more of a background and interest in that area, so I welcome anything you want to share.
